Well, after what we just watched, there really isn't much more analysis required here.
Months of preparation. A physical combine. Twenty-two rounds of drafting. Hundreds of hours of rankings, podcasts, group-chat arguments and pretending you had “your guys.” Then Sunday arrived and immediately reminded everyone that none of that prevents another grown man from ruining your entire week.
Football is back. Unfortunately, so are the consequences.
CALL THE POLICE
Stephen scored 141.32. That is a perfectly respectable fantasy score. You put up 141 in Week 1, check Sleeper Sunday night and feel pretty good about yourself.
Then you look across the matchup and David has 192 FUCKING POINTS.
David didn't beat Stephen. David used Stephen to test whether the league had a mercy rule.
The worst part? David had a player score zero in his starting lineup and still posted the highest score in the league by nearly 28 points. At some point this stopped being fantasy football and became a coordinated attack.
FANTASY FOOTBALL IS A STUPID GAME
George scored 145.74. Good week. Solid lineup. Enough points to beat most of the league.
Record: 0-1.
Welcome to fantasy football.
Jason casually dropped 164.04, the second-highest score of the week, and turned what should have been a comfortable George victory into 48 hours of wondering why he agreed to join this league.
This is the part nobody can explain to their wives: “So you scored a lot?” Yes. “And most people scored fewer?” Yes. “So you won?” No. “Why?” Because Jason is an asshole.
SUPER FUCKING FLEX HAS ARRIVED
Remember when Levi opened the startup draft with Drake Maye AND Jayden Daniels and half the room wondered whether anyone had explained that other positions exist?
Turns out Levi may have simply been reading the league settings.
SUPER. FUCKING. FLEX.
Levi dropped 151.68 and quietly left Chris wondering whether building an NFL roster composed primarily of players who still get carded at R-rated movies was going to require some patience.
Chris built a beautiful dynasty for 2029. Unfortunately, the league began in 2026.
THE HOMER PROPAGANDA CAMPAIGN SURVIVES WEEK 1
During the startup draft, Carl was accused of constructing a 49ers fan-fiction roster.
Christian McCaffrey. Brock Purdy. Ricky Pearsall. Probably tried drafting Kyle Shanahan in Round 23.
We laughed. We mocked. We created an award specifically for drafting Brock Purdy because the team was already named Talk Purdy To Me.
And now the son of a bitch is 1-0.
Carl put up 150.16 and handled Brad by 17.46 points. This means Carl gets seven full days to act like every decision he made during the startup draft was correct. This is objectively terrible news for the group chat.
THE NURSING HOME IS 1-0
We owe Guy an apology.
During the startup draft, we questioned his understanding of the word dynasty. Saquon. Kelce. Montgomery. McLaurin. Pollard. Deebo. Cousins.
At one point we weren't sure if Guy was drafting a dynasty roster or assembling the cast for The Expendables 7.
Well, the old bastards can still play. Guy put up 144.16 and beat Donald by 11.48.
Guy's championship window may be approximately six weeks, but goddammit, the window is currently open. Someone get Travis Kelce his compression socks. We've got a season to play.
SOMEBODY HAD TO WIN
And now we arrive at the game of the week. Not because it was good. Because according to league rules, one of these teams was legally required to receive a win.
Kyle: 129.18. Jesse: 124.86.
The two lowest scores in the league.
This was less Chiefs-Bills and more two raccoons fighting over a tipped-over garbage can.
Kyle gets exactly the same 1-0 record as David, who scored 62.82 more points than him. David committed a war crime to earn his victory. Kyle found his sitting unattended near the self-checkout.
Week 1 Awards
David — 192.00
We knew the technology existed. We didn't know someone would use it this soon.
Stephen — 141.32
Score 141. Lose by 51. Go fuck yourself, apparently.
Kyle — 129.18
Second-lowest score in the league. Same record as David. Fantasy football is not a meritocracy.
George — 145.74
One of the better scores in the league. 0-1. Please direct all complaints to scheduling.
Guy
We made fun of the old roster. The old roster is 1-0. Medical examinations pending.
Jesse — 124.86
Twelve teams entered. Jesse successfully located 12th place.
Week 1 Power Index
David is apparently building the 2007 Patriots. Jason is dangerous. Levi's Superflex propaganda has begun. Carl will be absolutely insufferable. Guy's retirement community remains operational. George and Stephen have learned that life isn't fair. Kyle has learned the exact opposite lesson. And Jesse currently owns the basement.
There are many weeks remaining. Plenty of time for things to change. But the beauty of dynasty football is that unlike redraft, you can't just escape your mistakes in January.
These players are yours. These trades are permanent. And these people will remember everything.
Week 1 is in the books.
Eleven managers still think they can win the championship.
Jesse is just trying to score 130.
See you next Sunday.
